Hi everyone! If you’re reading this I want to thank you for taking the time to get some ideas on how you might be able to help others during these uncertain times. I thought it would be a good idea to highlight some of my favorite organizations to give to as well as ways you can help if you don’t have it in your budget to donate!
The following are a few reputable organizations doing great things during these times. I have tried to make it a habit to stop myself before spending and think if this $25 might be better spent elsewhere. For instance, last week instead of getting takeout when our fridge was full, I donated the $30 I would have spent to Feeding America. It’s not much but it’s certainly a better use of the money!
Feeding America
Convoy of Hope
UNICEF
Immigrant Worker Safety Net Fund- unfortunately many undocumented workers will bear an especially heavy burden throughout this entire crisis. Left out of relief legislation, afraid to seek medical care and out of work; they will have little to no access to basic human needs.
How to help if you don’t have the budget to donate money:
- If you had or think you may have had COVID-19 and have completely recovered, you may be eligible to donate plasma through the American Red Cross which is being used for treatment.
- Go grocery shopping (or help order groceries for) an elderly or at-risk neighbor. Set up a schedule with them so you are able to get them their groceries weekly without them having to physically go to the store.
- Run errands for those at increased risk. Go pick up their prescriptions for them, run to the post office, take out their garbage… whatever you can do to help them reduce their exposure and risk.
- Check in on your friends and family, especially those working in healthcare or out of work. We will soon be seeing a second pandemic- the mental health fall-out from this crisis. Show your loved ones that you care. Often just the voice of someone familiar can help give us a little hope.
Do you have more ideas? Leave them in the comments so we can all do our part to help those who need it most right now!
