Welcome to my 4-part series: How To Get That Glow… I’ll be covering 4 of my favorite glow-getter ingredients over the next couple of days starting with… ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS!
How To Get That Glow Pt. 1
So, AHAs like Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Lactic Acid etc are fantastic additions to your skin care arsenal. Likewise, they are chemical exfoliants which increase cellular turnover and promote exfoliation of the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. Moreover, this outer layer is comprised of compact DEAD skin cells which, when accumulated, can leave the skin appearing dull and lifeless. AHAs work to exfoliate these skin cells without harsh scrubbing action. This compacts the outer layer leaving the skin more radiant, smoother and more even-textured.
Also, they work to improve acne, fine lines, pigmentation like acne marks and melasma as well as improve collagen production.
AHAs are one of my favorite ingredients to incorporate into my patients’ regimens for that WOW factor. Also, when I get an email from a patient saying that their skin feels and looks better after just a few days I know it’s those AHAs at work!
