Skin tips social media got wrong: •Looking for p Skin tips social media got wrong:
•Looking for pore clogging ingredients is tricky business. Even if a formula has none, the final product can still be comedogenic when combined, and even a product with a “comedogenic” ingredient could have a final formulation that doesn’t clog the pores. 🤯 If this seems to work for you then feel free to keep it up, but if it doesn’t, you’re not doing anything wrong it’s just that the science is VERY nuanced here.
•Purging is not a requirement for a product to be effective.
•Your skincare products in jars are formulated to prevent bacterial growth, you dont need a fancy skincare spatula.
•Slugging after actives may have the opposite effect! Ouch.

Back with another episode of “Best In Class” a Back with another episode of “Best In Class” and this time we’re tackling hair oils!

I love to use hair oils to soften the hair and add shine but this is the first and only hair oil to my knowledge that has used such a breakthrough ingredient to penetrate the hair shaft and repair the hair from the inside out.

I also use the mask and the detox shampoo from this brand very regularly. This trio have been a game changer in my routine. The mask can be a bit confusing to use and proper use is key to efficacy so definitely check out my @k18hair video live on my YouTube channel if you need a walk through!

This is one of the MOST common mistakes I see bein This is one of the MOST common mistakes I see being made with tretinoin. Petrolatum (the main ingredient in this product from @Prequelskin by @drsamanthaellis ) is an amazing occlusive agent to prevent water loss from the skin, effectively increasing hydration. BUT when used ON TOP of actives it can actually increase penatration and therefore irritation. Instead, use as a spot treatment on areas that are senstive before applying your stronger actives (in the clinic we always apply petroleum to around the nose and lips before a chemical peel). This prevents penetration and irritation! #tretinoin #tretinointips #tretinoinjourney #purging

🧴 For dark circles that are secondary to thinning skin, or hollowing- look for ingredients that increase collagen, like vitamin C and retinoids!

Here is my guide for treating and preventing black Here is my guide for treating and preventing blackheads!
1. Salicylic acid is a fantastic option for comedonal acne like blackheads. salicylic acid also known as BHA is able to penetrate the pore to dissolve dirt and oil inside. This is a unique quality of this acid and allows it to really get to work on this type of acne. For oily types it will be well tolerated and will have the added benefit of oil control. Dry types tend to find this ingredient more drying and
iritating. If you tend to be sensitive to this ingredient, opt for a cleanser or wash off formulation, but make sure you let it sit on the skin for at least 60 seconds before rinsing!
2. If you haven’t already incorporated retinoids into your nightly routine, now is the time! Retinoids are the most effective ingredients when it comes to preventing new acne lesions, including blackheads and whiteheads.
3. Be sure you are adequately removing the day’s sunscreen and makeup. A double cleanse is a highly underrated step for clear skin!

After years of subconsciously reaching for the fou After years of subconsciously reaching for the foundations, concealers, and other beauty products that had ingredients I knew would compliment my hard skincare, I thought it’s time I start sharing them with you.

First in the series is the @kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation. If you’ve ever tried it you probably recognized how amazing it makes your skin look AND feel.

Some of my favorite ingredient callouts are HA (a big reason I don’t use HA serums is that it’s already in everything including your foundations). This really does add such a beautiful texture and finish to the formula. Plus there’s niacinamide, Squalane, peptides and vitamin B5.

I would consider this formulation SAFE for acneic and sensitive skin.

A note, this product has SPF 25 which is a fantastic extra! But as always you need 1/4 of a teaspoon of sunscreen to start your day so if you’re applying less foundation than that (you probably are) apply a layer of SPF first!

Head to my stories for more of my favorite skin- friendly foundations no matter your preferred coverage!
